Mamaroneck, NY, December 11, 2008 -- Hudson Valley Energy Consultants (HVEC), specializing in energy audits for homeowners, announced today that its Chief Energy Auditor, John Polgreen, joined the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Program, sponsored by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYESRDA). HVEC joins a select group of partners trained and certified by the Building Performance Institute (BPI) to meet the high standards of technical and professional competence as Building Analyst Professionals. But unlike most other BPI-certified analysts performing residential energy audits, HVEC is NOT a general contractor, builder or energy product vendor.
According to Bell, "HVEC is independent and unbiased precisely because it provides energy audits and nothing else." He says no one at privately-held HVEC, not staff, nor management -- which includes real estate appraisers and brokers, home inspectors, and property managers -- stands to benefit, except by providing the right advice "at the right price."
Under the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program, HVEC examines heating, cooling and lighting systems, appliances, insulation levels and air leakage to identify areas where energy costs can be reduced. The home owner gets a written report, often including thermal imaging results. The report gives detailed recommendations for improvements, including approximate costs, savings, and payback periods.
HVEC also describes the financial incentives available through the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program for making the energy-efficient improvements. Eligible improvements typically include heating and hot water equipment replacements, appliance, lighting, or cooling system upgrades, and installation of more efficient doors, windows, and insulation.
